ParrotRecipes.com - Bird Cages Questions

Question #1:

Canary agression question?

I have herd that canaries are normally very agressive birds and I know that my friend's canary killed it's cage mate almost immediately after they got it. My question is that if I were going to pick up two canaries bout a half hor away from my house, would I need to purchase another cage? Or do you think they could tolerate each other until I got home? If it matters, they would be coming from the same home and they are less than a year old.
Thanks in advance.

Question #2:

Are Cockatiel Parrots Cautious of Ceiling Fans?

My cockatiel is free to roam the house but he rarely flies and is mostly at the cage area. But we have a ceiling fan and he sees it when I turn it on but I fear that he may fly into it one day.

I know that Finch birds are careless birds that fly into windows and fans but what about cockatiels? Any reports on cockatiels flying into ceiling fans?

Question #3:

Will my parakeet be lonely? Should i get another one?

I have one parakeet which i got 2 monthes ago. Im going to be starting school soon and everybody in my family works late and comes home late. The house is empty from early in the morning to around 6 at night. What should i do to help it be less lonely. Should i get a new bird? i kinda dont wanna get a new bird cause i have to get another cage to keep it in and that can get expensive. Thank you for your help.

Question #4:

What kind of bird should I get?!?

The limit I will spend on the bird it self is under $500
Cage:$200.
And Another else doesn't matter.
I want a kind of big bird not like a small budgie I was thinking a cockatiel or something. Anything bigger or the same size as a budgie. Thanks :)

Question #5:

Why do my birds do this every time i let them out?

when they get on of their cage they fly up to this picture and stay there.. why that picture?
they stand on the frame

God Bless!

Question #6:

what can i do when i let my birds out?

i get kind of bored when i let them out and i dont really know what to do with them because i think they get bored too

so what games can i play with them

they are afraid of things that they havent seen before *example* if they were to get a new toy they would be afraid of it but then they would try to play with it

and i have 2 parakeets

God Bless!

and by "let out" i mean take out of the cage... so dont tell me to get them new toys or something

Question #7:

What bird should i get?

I am going to get a bird next next sunday and i need advise because I am a beginner. I was thinking of getting one of these:
Pionus Parrot,a Parakeet, Peach face lovebird,a Canarie, or a green cheeked conure. im only 10. please help and what birds are easy to care for and rarely bites? And how do u clean a bird r u supposed to? O.o also how do u clean a bird cage and will it be ok if we leave it outside?

Question #8:

Would you learn Spanish if it meant a lot to your girlfriend/wife?

I've always dreamed of having a Hispanic family. I love my family but secretly have always felt out of place at home. Part of me is grateful that I wasn't abused or anything but I always felt different from them. My parents are profoundly American and I love them anyway but I always wished they would learn Spanish and I used to pray that my father would get transferred to Spain for his job so we'd all have to go live there. I remember reading about Hispanic countries and thinking that was where I really belonged and not the US.

I love Hispanic stuff and the Spanish language and I speak it like a native and I've always longed to come from a family where Spanish is spoken at home. I remember wishing I were Hispanic so I could marry a Hispanic guy.

I used to wish that there were a magic potion or spell that would make me Hispanic and that I could marry a Hispanic guy and go live in Mexico or Spain forever... that would be like my fairy tale.

Sometimes I crave companionship but I've been so disappointed. I've dated guys who knew how much I love Hispanic culture and how much it meant to have someone to talk to in Spanish but no one was willing to learn it. When a guy speaks to me in English I feel like I'm a bird and he's caught me and put me in a cage when I need to be flying free. I wish I could find someone who would learn Spanish because I've always wondered what it would be like to be married to a Hispanic and if the guy adopted the Hispanic culture it would mean so much to me.

I was wondering, if I had a boyfriend and he knew how much it meant to me, would he be willing to learn Spanish and speak only Spanish to me at home?
Is it possible to find an American guy who's more like a Hispanic (Mexican, Spanish, Colombian, etc.) guy? Would it be like being married to a Hispanic guy? Why has no one ever loved me enough to learn Spanish?

Why haven't I found someone who cares about me to learn Spanish... knowing how much it means to me to have someone to talk to in Spanish? It means the absolute world to me. If you love someone, doesn't it make sense that you'd do stuff to make them happy?
I'm not stupid, I understand that you're not supposed to marry someone from another country. I understand it wouldn't be appropriate for an American to marry a Spanish, Mexican or Colombian guy. But I've always wished I could be Hispanic so I could marry a Hispanic guy. All the guys I've dated know I think Hispanic guys are amazing.

Since I can't have a Latino guy sometimes I think that a guy who at least is more like a Latino guy would make me happy.

Would you learn Spanish if you knew how much it meant to your significant other?

Question #9:

is this a good cage for a sun conure?

thnx

Question #10:

Should I clip my birds wings?

I have a lovebird who's wings are not clipped. He is afraid of hands and will not let anyone pet or touch him. but he will land on you finger, your head or your shoulder when you call him, but in order to decrease his fear of hands would it helped if I clipped his wings to make him more dependent on people. but i'm afraid that he will not like people if I clip his wings and he will forget how to come when I call him. Would a harness be a better choice although I don't think I could get it on him because he is too afraid. but I feel like I don't spend as much time with him out of his cage because he has to stay in my room all day because of the low ceilings so that I can catch him to get him back in his cage where as my other birds get to go in all the rooms of the house to explore and meet the other members of my family

edit: I know how to clip wings I clip all my other bird wings myself

Question #11:

my parrot keeps biting cage, what can i do and why?

ok, so my bird every morning EARLY morning my green cheek bites his cage and it annoying cuz its loud. he has plently of toys and preening ones. i also got him those shredders and i wrap it around where he bites. but why is he doing tht. and now he is going around the shredder to make the noise i put a blanket over his cage and he stops but im tired of waking up so early. im like a mother going to its crying baby. i tried putting the blanket over b4 i go to bed butttttttt no, does it again, very smart. and why wont he talk !! i say hello to him 1000000000x and i get no where.

Question #12:

Help me with budgies?

So I'm going to add a aviary to my house as oppose to all the cages I have now I'm very happy about it!!! Soooooooo I'm looking for nice quality breeding cage fronts made of any safe material for budgies with nothing toxic in it. I am trying to find one and I've looked everywhere. I can't find a nice cage front for my budgies in the USA if I find one it's always in the U.K and I don't really feel like dealing with the shipping fee there!!! But even if I do that there are only two places I find that makes the nice cage fronts. Wades cage fronts and Thomas something but neither of these seem just right for me. Does anyone find any cage fronts for sale or that I can hire someone to make that are both safe for my birds and in the U.S.A

Question #13:

What kind of radio antenna is this?

Wish I could find a link to a picture here, but no avail :(
This is a metal antenna that might stand about 15 feet high and looks like the outline of a football or a simple leaf standing on its end. I see them in some rural areas of Washington state and I've seen them in other rural hilly areas. They are always white and all have that bird-cage look to them.

Question #14:

Whats wrong with my indian ringneck?

He is 2 and I have had him about 2 weeks. The first week he was fine, he would talk to us (bird language) show off when anyone approached his cage and was a really funny little character. But it seems like overnight he has turned into a completely different bird. He 'growls' when anyone looks at him, and screeches if you talk to him. He has been like this for a couple of days. Aswell as, he will not let us touch him or his cage without going for us! Whats wrong with him? Thankyou

Question #15:

Can you train a 7 month old parakeet?

I bought a 7 month old budgie today from my local pet store. The owner claimed she is 7 months old and I was worried about being able to train her so late. As of right now if I move slowly she will let me put my hand in the cage and even come within inches of her if I move slowly. I love this bird and I am worried that I wont be able to have her climb the ladder ring the bell or perch on my finger. Also I got a little impatient and tried putting my hand in there a few times today. I think she might be scarred of me or too old to be trained. Anyone with experience have any advice?

Question #16:

I thought my parakeet was a girl...now im not sure.?

It has a white cere with blue tints, the tints are light not nearly as dark as the male bird blue beak. it used to have a brown one. *it is a blue parakeet if that matters* its pretty agressive towards the male bird. its always the first to eat. it yells alot at the other. it likes to bite on the things and espically climb the cage and little swings. Im hoping it was a girl for the other bird...is it?
@wings both the birds are a few months over the year
there was a article that said female birds are more agressive?
guys, please answer!
well it does have a dark blue coat with with gray feathers on the wing. the male is bright blue with white wings

Question #17:

What could have been the cause of my bird's death?

Today my bird passed away, I'm still a little grief stricken from this and I'm still trying to figure why he passed away.I would say old age, but I can't believe it.He wasn't that old to be honest. I'll give the best description of my bird's health

We adopted him like when I was 14.(im 18 now)
Around this year, he had some weird growth in his nostril. I tried to take it out(He wouldn't let me)
I went to the pet store to see if someone could tell me what it was( no one had a clue about this)
The growth was kinda getting bigger. I went on the internet for this, but not one had the symptom I was looking for.
He lived in a separate cage.
His bird feed was a lil empty and possibly yesterday (I'm pretty sure my grandmother fed him)
He was perfectly fine when I saw him last night.

I don't what happened. I keep thinking he died of starvation, but that couldn't make sense. There was still ALOT of water in his cage and still remainders of bird seeds on the ground. I was thinking he passed away from that growth, since it was getting kind of big( I think he suffocated from it) or maybe stress I don't know.

Someone please help and try not to be harsh. I did love this bird like family.
He was a cockateil

Question #18:

Breeding Zebras - Broken egg on cage floor?

I have two zebra finches - one male one female - that get along wonderfully and have been laying eggs on and off since I got them. I didn't let the previous ones hatch because I was too busy to be watching over baby birds, but in June we decided to let them incubate. They laid four which turned out to be duds. About 6 to 8 weeks later they began laying again - this time they laid 7. They are due to start hatching in a couple days, but this morning I went to change the paper on the bottom of the cage and found a broken egg! It was on the opposite side of the cage from the nest. The yolk had dried up into the paper already and the shell just sat there with one little hole in it. I checked on the other eggs and all 6 are just as they were, and my finches are always sitting on them except when I shoo them off to look.

Really I just want to know if I should be worried about the other babies. Ronnie (the female) never leaves the nest except when Albie (the male) takes over so she can stretch her wings and eat, and they just chirp and fuss about nesting all day long, so I know they are tying to do their job, but if one egg was dumped, does that mean there was a problem with it? And if so, should I be worried about the others?
By looking at the eggs, I mean peeking through the back of the cage into the nest when they stop sitting on them for a moment. I don't disturb her at all.

Question #19:

Will my ex breeding bird settle down?

I baught an indian ringneck, 2 years of age. He was used for breeding, then sent off to the pet shop to be sold. He was in the shop 2 weeks, and then I baught him. He is really untame and pretty visious. He doesnt really like people and will growl at the approach of them. Will he settle? What should I do? Also he doesnt come out of his cage. Thankyou
